Canberra and the ACT
An AI consultant in Canberra for growing businesses.
Chartered Accountant and finance executive, based in Canberra. I help ACT businesses reduce manual work and improve operations with practical AI and automation, and I lead integrations after an acquisition. CFO-level advice each month and a seat as adviser to the board are the secondary services.
In short
- Based in Canberra, working across Australia, remotely and in person.
- Three kinds of work: AI and automation for SMEs, post-merger integration, and CFO and board advisory.
- Suited to the way many ACT businesses grow: contract by contract, through acquisitions of similar firms, with boards that need numbers they can trust.
- Email me or use the contact form. I reply personally within one business day.
01 The work
AI, automation and integration in Canberra.
AI and automation
Reduce manual work and improve operations with practical AI: the workflows, the systems that connect them and the controls an auditor expects.
AI and automationPost-merger integration
From due diligence to day 100: a stable first month, one set of numbers and synergies counted only once they’re in the ledger.
Post-merger integrationCFO and board advisory
CFO-level advice on a monthly rhythm, or an independent finance adviser to the board and investors.
CFO and board advisory
When the job is one workflow at a fixed price, Works Better does the build.
02 Scope
What each kind of work covers, and where it stops.
Pick the row that sounds like your business.
| If your problem is | Start with | What you get | Where it stops |
|---|---|---|---|
| Manual work across several workflows, and no agreed order to fix it | The Diagnostic | A written priorities report in one to two weeks: what to fix first, what it’s worth and who should own it, with a fixed quote for the next step | It’s the plan, not the build. The report is yours whether or not we work together afterwards. |
| A set of workflows to automate, or an acquisition to integrate | Lead the change, usually after a Diagnostic | Part-time, hands-on leadership alongside your team: the priorities, the accountabilities and the operating rhythm, until the change holds | It’s part-time, with your team, not a full-time hire. |
| One workflow you already know you want fixed | Works Better: a free fit check by email, then the Workflow Audit | A fixed quote to build that one workflow | One workflow, not a roadmap across the business. For that, start with the Diagnostic. |
| A deal or a board question that needs an independent read of the numbers | Board and investor support | Due diligence, integration oversight and an adviser who reads the ledger and the operations together | The decision stays with the board. |
03 ACT businesses
Where I can help in the ACT.
The work carries across sectors: reading a P&L properly, integrating an acquisition and building reporting a board can trust.
- Government suppliers
Revenue that arrives contract by contract.
Cash that follows the client’s payment cycle, and growth that often comes from buying a similar firm. That needs a forecast built contract by contract, and an integration plan before the deal completes.
- Defence SMEs
Growing to win bigger work.
Before a business can carry larger contracts, its finance function, controls and reporting have to grow first. Lenders, partners and acquirers will read the numbers closely.
- Not-for-profits
Boards and finance committees.
Reporting a board can make decisions from, and a clear view of which programs cover their costs and which are carried by the rest.
- Professional services
Margin, job by job.
Profit that depends on how work is quoted, staffed and billed. The gap between quoted and delivered margin is usually where it goes.
Alongside my roles, from July 2026 I’m Independent Finance Advisor on the Finance Subcommittee of Capital Region Community Services, a not-for-profit.
04 CFO support
CFO support, change lead or board adviser in Canberra.
If you need senior finance judgement but not a full-time CFO, I work as a fractional CFO on a monthly rhythm. If something specific has to change, such as an acquisition to integrate or a set of workflows to automate, I lead it part-time and hands-on, alongside your team. And if you sit on a board or invest, I provide due diligence, integration oversight and an independent read of the numbers.
I lead group finance at a growing Australian business, so I do this work every week, not just advise on it. Alongside that I take on up to 20 advisory clients a year, with about 40 hours a month between them: two or three at any one time.
